Prince Original Graphite

Prince engineers begin designing racquets using graphite (carbon fiber), a next-gen material used mainly in aerospace tech at the time. The Prince Original Graphite – affectionately referred to as the “POG” – quickly becomes the first “top players” graphite racquets.



Synthetic Gut

To compensate for the higher string tension required in oversized racquets, Prince reinvents the tennis string with Prince Synthetic Gut. It becomes the most popular tennis string that same year.


1978 US Open

Armed with her game-changing new Prince, 16 year old Pam Shriver shocks the world by reaching the 1978 US Open Women’s Singles final with the oversized frame – helping fuel a worldwide demand for Prince racquets.
